Sunshine, beaches, a relaxed lifestyle, and friendly people are some of the characteristics that best represent California. Most of California welcomes foreigners and diversity, setting up many \u201csanctuary cities\u201d throughout the state to protect immigrants. When it comes to safety, three Bay Area cities rank among the top 10 safest, led by Sunnyvale at number one.<\/p>\n<p>In general, cities in the Bay Area have low violent crime rates, low rates of drug use, and relatively low rates of deadly traffic accidents. The sprawling city of San Jose is \u201cas much defined by its suburban neighborhoods and large tech campuses as it is by the high-rises in its business district,\u201d said a local expert.
