What students, parents, and schools say about Cogito

Students’ testimonials

Nat Nguyen, student

Vietnam

“With the help of GRCC advisors and GRCC International Program staff I was able to get accepted to the University of California at Berkeley to study Chemical Engineering & Material Sciences. Looking back to the very first day I set foot in the US, I am truly grateful for having the chance to know all of the wonderful people who inspired me, helped me and encouraged me to be able to do the things that I am doing right now.”

Milena, student

Poland

“Our teacher, Jon, was the best teacher I have ever had!

We did amazing exercises where he had two people speak at the same time for example. I have never laughed so much in a classroom before. I wish to have such a teacher in my high school. I learned more in those 3 weeks than during an entire year of learning English in Poland!”

Monika K., high school student

Poland

“I am absolutely delighted by my school Thornton Academy! It is definitely very demanding academically especially because I chose lots of difficult subjects. Now I am also super happy that I chose dorm accommodation vs. host family. It gives far more opportunities to fully immerse yourself with campus and I just make more friends here. It is also as warm as being with real families because teachers with their spouse and kids live in our dorms but in their own apartments 4 families per dorm. Truly this is the best choice and thank you for convincing me! I still have lots of privacy with my friends and yet get to hang out with teacher families, eat with them now and then – love it! Also, Thornton Academy has a very smart location – outside of the city, so we have our own community here, but at the same time, we can make it to Portland on weekends!

So far I love my school and I will be happy to recommend it to other students who want a bigger school with great academics!“

Irina, university student

Russia

“I always wanted to study in the US but I didn’t know where to start. Cogito helped me create my list of universities, explained what exams. I need to take and helped me with scholarships. I am now attending Lehigh University in PA which is ranked in the Top 100. The application process for US schools is complicated with all the SAT, ACT, language exams, and hundreds of schools. I would not be able to figure it all out on my own. I was really lucky to find Cogito.

My advice to all international students is: apply early, contact Cogito and have realistic expectations.”

Ana N., student

Russia

“My goal was to improve my SSAT score and find a program that would help expand my interest in psychology. I wanted to get into the top 5 boarding schools and Cogito helped me to achieve that goal. This year I’m at Phillips Academy Andover. They also helped me improve my score from 74 to 95. Outside of school, this program help deepened those interests in psychology by matching me with a mentor from Harvard psychology department and enrolling in various experiments there and also by introducing me to Mass Innovation Nights at MIT.”

Aleksandar D., student

Croatia

“So far everything has been almost perfect. Santa Barbara is beautiful, the mountains, downtown, and the beach, they’re all wonderful. The apartment is huge, it’s well equipped and it looks good. There are tons of college kids, it’s a good mix between boys and girls and there’s a lot of parties. So the experience so far has been amazing, and unexpectedly, I don’t miss home at all.”

Parents’ testimonials

A.W. Mother of Jun

Japan

“I have signed up for a guardianship program at Cogito for my son for more than a year, and have been very satisfied with their service. Sylvia (the head of Cogito) is a really reliable, professional person whom I have been happy to work with. Under difficult pandemic circumstances, she has always been positive and takes necessary actions proactively and swiftly. I highly recommend Cogito to anyone who seeks for a child’s guardianship away from home.”

Lin L. Mother of Ella

China

“I am tremendously grateful for this service. With Covid 19, we decided that it will be better for our daughter to stay in the US for Christmas break rather than travel back to China. Cogito found an excellent American host family, Stacy, picked up Ella from campus and provided amazing care during the school break filled with activities around American holiday traditions. We received videos of them baking cookies and decorating the Christmas tree. She ordered Chinese food when Ella was homesick. I strongly believe that every child should have a local, US-based guardian.”

Paolo Pereira

Portugal

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your invaluable help and support throughout this process. I am sure we made a much wiser and more informed choice after your advice and help. I am sure Diogo will want to thank you personally, but here is a well-deserved word of recognition for your professionalism, friendly and patient advice.”

Prof. Javier Aracil, father of Beatriz

Spain

“We were fortunate to have Cogito find a great school for our daughter Beatriz, with a scholarship. Even with this 2020’s COVID circumstances, she enjoyed it so much that she came back for a second academic year. As it turns out, the residential life program, which was advised by Cogito, has proven a great choice. With regards to academics, she is taking AP courses, which help a lot in her preparation for college. During the selection and admission process, Cogito has been very responsive and helpful. Thus, we certainly recommend Cogito if you are considering studying in the US.”

Antonieta Rodriguez Subiabre

Chile

“Cogito gave us the extraordinary opportunity to have our 17 years old son being received by this amazing High School. It is highly important for us the fact that Cogito understood the significance of our goals with this experience; because the future of our son is being built upon this residence abroad. Not just a high-quality education or good curriculum provided by the school, also an excellent boarding system and a community that is deeply committed to integration; which is precisely what we were looking for, for our son. On top of it all, we see Cogito as a good party to rely on, that gives us assessment even about College preparation. If anyone asks us to recommend somebody to assess them in such an endeavor, we would recommend Cogito and its services, I would definitely suggest getting their expert opinion. Thank you, Sylvia and Brittany.”
