Why students ♥ Hawai’i Preparatory Academy

Hawai’i Prep believes that high school education should empower you to do real stuff in the real world. It should prepare you for the self-motivated work that universities expect and the ingenuity that future employers will demand. At the same time, the school also believes that a happy life requires balance, and offers plenty of room to discover new activities and have fun with friends. Above all, HPA is a place to call home. College Acceptance

HPA graduates are consistently admitted to highly selective colleges and universities, as well as many other outstanding institutions that meet their goals. Virtually 100 percent of the graduates enroll at four-year institutions and report high satisfaction with their university choice.

In the past six years, the graduates have enrolled at Harvard (2), Yale (2), Columbia, University of Chicago (3), Princeton, Brown (3), University of Pennsylvania (3), Dartmouth (9), Cornell (2), Stanford (5), UC Berkeley (6), UCLA (6), Duke, Johns Hopkins, MIT (2), Claremont McKenna (2), and Washington University in St. Louis (3). During this same time period, students were also admitted to many other well-known schools including Amherst, Boston College, Boston University, Bowdoin, Caltech, Emory, Michigan, Northeastern, NYU, Pomona, UVA, UNC-Chapel Hill, and Vanderbilt.

Housing and Dorms

If you choose to board at HPA, you’ll be in good company. Roughly 50 percent of our Upper School students live on campus. Some students come from as far as Nigeria or New York City; others are Hawaii residents who prefer the convenience (and fun) of dormitory life. The close-knit boarding community is all about gaining your independence, growing as a person, and making life-long friends. This will be your home away from home.
